Hiring the right landscaping professional is crucial as their expertise can significantly impact the success, aesthetics, and functionality of your outdoor space. When it comes to selecting the correct individual for the job, it may help you to understand the difference between some key landscaping terms.
Landscaping
(The umbrella term)
Definition: Landscaping is a broader term that encompasses the planning, design, installation, and maintenance of outdoor spaces to enhance their aesthetic appeal and functionality. It includes both hardscaping and softscaping elements.
Landscaping is the simplist way to describe what we do at Tree Point Construction.
Landscape Construction
Definition: Landscape construction refers to the implementation of outdoor design plans through the installation of various physical elements, such as pathways, driveways, patios, decks, fences, structures, and other hardscaping features.
Tree Point Construction specializes in landscape construction.
Hardscaping
Definition: Hardscaping involves the design, installation, and construction of the non-living, structural elements within an outdoor space. This can include features like driveways, walkways, patios, decks, fences, retaining walls, and other man-made structures.
Tree Point Construction specializes in hardscaping.
Softscaping
Definition: Softscaping refers to the living, horticultural elements of landscaping. It involves the selection, installation, and maintenance of plants, trees, flowers, soil, and other organic components within an outdoor space.
Tree Point Construction does not specialize in softscaping; however, we will incorporate softscape elements when needed.
Landscape Architect
Definition: A landscape architect is a professional who is trained to plan, design, and manage outdoor spaces. These experts combine their knowledge of architecture, horticulture, and environmental science to create functional and aesthetically pleasing landscapes.
This title should only be reserved for accredited landscape architects although it is often used interchangeably with “landscape construction.”
